Meet the Sazama Team

Project Coordinator
Nathan Wachtl
Nathan shares the core belief that dedication to client satisfaction is paramount and everything within the process is tailored to a positive experience and a long-lasting relationship.
“I love the impact we make on a client’s life. By understanding their goal, I can design for their present and future needs.”
Nathan’s passion for architecture and remodeling was established early in life. He obtained his Master of Architecture degree from UWM focusing on residential and commercial architecture and has hands-on experience in custom residential construction and remodeling.
“My love for all things architecture has led me to greatly appreciate the clean lines and theory of mid-century modern, the character and warmth of colonial and the avoidance of “extra” in modern. When I strategize design directions with clients, I like to explore all ideas. Some of the best outcomes have been a blend of what the home demands, the client’s personality and an appreciation for architecture.”
When not meeting with clients and helping design projects, Nathan shares his enthusiasm for the outdoors with his wife, Susie, and his family. He spends weekends at their cabin getaway and enjoys watching nature, fishing for ‘Big Mo” and hiking throughout the many state forests.

Founder
Don Sazama
Don Sazama has an eye for architectural detail and is excellent at reconfiguring spaces to create a perfect design. For the past 30 years he has built an outstanding reputation based on the satisfaction of each and every client.
“The first step in a remodeling project is selecting your general contractor. Choosing the right firm can be challenging – the Milwaukee area is saturated with remodelers. It makes the decision tough, but many choices mean a greater likelihood of finding the remodeler best suited to your project and your personality.”
Some thoughts on the process –
There are several ways to find qualified contractors. The first and best method is a referral from someone who has had a personal experience with a remodeler. Look for more than a nice finished product. Ask what problems arose along the way and how those problems were resolved.
If you do not know of anyone who has been through a remodel, here are some other ways I would recommend going about hiring a reputable contractor:
Contact your local building inspector. An inspector will have first-hand knowledge of the quality of work and can give you an unbiased opinion.
Ask about some of the subcontractors and vendors they work with. You may then choose to contact these other businesses and ask them about their working relationship. How long have you worked together? Are they organized? Do they pay their bills on time?
Lastly, you could contact their bank and ask about the financial health of the company. The relationship they have with their financial institution can say a lot about a company.

Owner
Mike Sazama
Michael started out assisting carpenters and organizing project sites over summers at age 10. He studied finance and economics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee while working as an electrician. He worked for two electrical contractors prior to joining Sazama Design Build Remodel in 2002. In his first permanent role at Sazama, Michael held the title of ‘Expeditor’, making sure all aspects of the business ran smoothly. Now Michael oversees the accounting department and is also the office manager. His role is still to provide flawless execution in all aspects of client projects. He coordinates office staff and works with clients to provide the most positive experience possible for everyone involved.
“I strive to constantly improve our efficiency and effectiveness for superior communication between our clients, our office, contractors and carpenters. Much of my creative energy comes from visiting project sites at various stages.”
“I enjoy residential remodeling because it improves our client’s quality of life. At Sazama, we worry about the smallest details so our clients don’t have to. Sometimes it is the smallest amenities that make home life more enjoyable.”
“I feel a great sense of achievement when I can step back and enjoy a completed project at my own home. I take that pride and enthusiasm back to Sazama to share with clients going through the remodeling process.”

“When I started with Sazama, Don Sazama and I did everything from demolition to plumbing, electrical, drywall, tile and finish carpentry. As we grew, we had to spend our time locating and cultivating the fine group of craftsmen we have today.”
“My greatest sense of accomplishment is having a client shake my hand and tell me that we’ve exceeded their expectations. Nothing gets me energized more than a challenging job ending with an extremely happy client.”

Kimberly Stillman
Kimberly started her design career as a milliner in New York City. After her tenure in the costume department of the Metropolitan Opera, she segued into interior design. Kimberly explains, “When private clients came to my studio for a hat fitting, they would see my space and began to ask me if I could help them with theirs.”
After many years in the interior design field, she was hired by a design build firm after working with them on a major project. “Although furniture plays a huge role in the feel of a home, it’s the architecture and permanent finishes that really speak volumes. I love to help people create homes that reflect their lives and personal tastes. Having been through renovations myself, I know how overwhelming all the choices can be.”
